Fair points. But the logistical differences between constructing habitat space for -50C and -10C are not that substantial. We have large populations at the South Pole already in the Amundsen Scott South Pole Station, one of dozens of bases out on the ice which make a comfortable life possible for hundreds of scientists, mechanics, cooks, machine operators, etc. in the very worst weather the South Pole can muster. This is absolutely a solved problem.
