Indeed, it may have been simpler to say “they behave much as projections do”. If you’ve ever played with a laser pointer to confound a cat, very small motions of the pointer in your hand translate to very large, rapid motions (and abrupt changes of direction) in the laser dot. The multidimensional hypothesis potentially explains only how/why such projections could appear as solid objects that are nevertheless able to change size and vanish.
